Police in Vietnam have arrested Larroque Olivier, 51, who has been wanted by Interpol for child rape and abuse in many countries.
Authorities said Olivier is now being detained for further investigations at a prison under management of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security.
Larroque Olivier had been charged by French authorities with distributing lewd materials, abusing and raping children in many countries. But he had fled his home country before police came to catch him. After that, authorities in France asked for assistance from overseas Interpol offices in arresting him.
Police in Vietnam later found that Olivier was residing at an apartment on Tong Dan Street in Trang Tien Ward, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi. He was arrested at a major hospital on July 19.
Larroque Olivier told police that he entered Vietnam in 2000. In order to pay his living costs in Hanoi, he signed a contract to work six weeks a year at a local hospital.
The French Embassy has expressed thanks for the help of Vietnamese police in the arrest of the doctor.
