KHANH HOA (VNS)- Vietnamese rescuers saved two foreigners yesterday after deteriorating health caused both to lose control of their Panama-registered boat, Ocean Dream.
According to the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Nha Trang, the boat was stranded about 298 nautical miles east off Nha Trang when it sent an SOS yesterday morning.
Its captain, a 49-year-old man from Indonesia, a diabetic, had apparently suffered from a serious attack of diarrhoea. The boat was carrying an 81-year-old guest from Japan, who had suffered broken legs and had problems with his lungs.
Due to rough weather conditions, the Vietnamese rescue ship only managed to reach the boat six hours after receiving the SOS. The two patients are being treated at a local hospital.- VNS
