A big fire hit an under-construction bar in downtown Hanoi on Tuesday, leaving at least 6 dead, a local police officer said.
It broke at about 2pm at a bar in Zone 9 on Tran Thanh Tong street in Hai Ba Trung district near the national morgue and Yersin garden.
The bar is popular with young people and currently is under construction.
Initial investigation found sparks that occurred during arc welding hit an electric wire on a soundproofing wall and caused the fire.
Colonel To Xuan Thieu, deputy director of Hanoi firefighting department, confirmed with Tuoi Tre that six victims were rushed to hospital but all of them were pronounced dead.
Dozens of firemen and two fire trucks are now at the scene and the bar has only one gate, according to Tuoi Tre reporters on the scene.
