Mixing of sex and cultural monument causes controversy

Photos of a group of students’ typesetting of the word “sex” along with depictions certain body parts in front of Thang Long Citadel in Hanoi, which have been posted to Facebook, have raised controversy and criticism.

The typesetting of the word “sex”
The photos were taken and posted in an attempt to gain attention for their graduation event. The person who posted the photos noted that they were "banking students".
It would not have caused such and uproar if they had not been taken at Thang Long Citadel, the capital city’s historical monument.
A number of young people supported these photos, saying that this is the was an expression of a desire for sex education and to integrate it as a normal part of life.
Another Facebook user said, it is impossible to say the word “sex” is impolite. The word in Vietnamese can have several different meanings, and the meaning of this word is subjective.
Another Facebook user said that this was natural action on the part of students, and that they should not be criticised.
However, some others questioned about why they took the photos at such a culturally important place.
One person wondered what tourists, including foreigners would think of such lack of respect for the historical site.
