General Vo Nguyen Giap to rest in peace on Quang Binh’s island
After the memorial service, the coffin of General Vo Nguyen Giap will be brought to his hometown - Quang Binh province – by plane and will be buried in Vung Chua – Dao Yen (Swallow Island) in Quang Dong Commune, Quan Trach district.
Thousands of people were waiting to pay respect to the General in front of his home on Hoang Dieu Street, Hanoi in the afternoon of October 7.
In the afternoon of October 7, under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, the national organizing board of the mourning ceremony of General Vo Nguyen Giap held a plenary session.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked the board to thoroughly and meticulously prepare for the mourning ceremony mourning ceremony in Hanoi, HCMC City and Quang Binh.
Under the plan, after the memorial service on the morning of October 13, from the funeral home No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi, the coffin of the General will be transported by a plane to Dong Hoi Airport of Quang Binh. From Dong Hoi Airport, the coffin will be taken by car to the burial site in the area of Vung Chua – Yen Island in Quang Dong commune of Quang Trach district.
In the afternoon of October 6 and 7, tens of thousands of people lined up for a few hundred meters long in front of the house at No. 30 Hoang Dieu Street, Hanoi. In particular, hundreds of them traveled hundreds of kilometers and queued for several hours to get into the house to pay tribute to the beloved General.
General Vo Nguyen Giap passed away at 6.09pm on October 4 at the Army Hospital 108. His funeral will be held in state rites. The coffin is now placed at the National Funeral House, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi.
Funeral service is slated for October 12 at the national funeral house, 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi. Memorial service is scheduled for October 13 and burial service will be held at the General’s home province of Quang Binh at the wish of the General and his family.
Respect-paying and memorial services will also be held at the office of the Quang Binh provincial People’s Committee and the Thong Nhat Hall in Ho Chi Minh City at the same time with the ceremonies in Hanoi.
During the two days of mourning on October 12 and 13, public offices and places will fly national flags at half-mast while entertainment activities will be postponed.
The memorial and burial services will be broadcast live by Vietnam Television (VTV) and Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV).

Located in Quang Dong commune, Quang Trach district, Quang Binh province, Vung Chua – Yen Island is a famous beauty spot in northern Quang Binh. It is 10km from the poetic Ngang Pass and just over 2 km from Highway 1.
Lying adjacent to the Hon La deepwater bay, at the foot of the majestic Ngang Pass, Vung Chua is a long beach with white sand and being surrounded by green trees. Compared to many other beaches, Vung Chua attracts visitors by the wild beauty and tranquility.
Being surrounded by the three island of Hon La, Hon Gio and Hon Nom (Swallow Island), Vung Chua area is pretty airtight. Vung Chua is the shelter for many boats during storms.

The Swallow Island is not far from Vung Chua. It is the home to swallow birds so the island is named after the bird. It takes just over a 20 minute boat ride from Vung Chua to Swallow Island. The space here is extremely spacious. Amid the ocean, the Swallow Island emerges as a green jewel, with poetic and wild beauty.
The Swallow Island joins Hon La and Hon Gio islands to make the three peaks of a triangle on the East Sea. At the sunrise or sunset, the scenery here is really stunning.
