The new centre, which will be located on a 18,000 sq.m land plot surrounded by the four streets of Le Thanh Ton, Pasteur, Ly Tu Trong and Dong Khoi, will be built early next year.
The centre is expected to be completed by 2020 and will be the workplace of the People's Committee and several departments.
Ho Quang Toan, deputy director of the city's Planning and Architecture Department, said his department had submitted to the People's Committee a plan to organise an architectural contest for the centre's design.
The department is also drafting a plan to arrange the location of city departments and agencies to the new administrative centre and will submit the proposal to the People's Committee.
The 18,000 sq.m land plot contains the headquarters of the People's Committee and several departments, including the Transport Department and Natural Resources and Environment Department.
The current headquarters of the People's Committee and several old buildings that have architectural value on the land lot will be preserved, while other buildings will be demolished for construction of the new administrative centre.
The main entrance will be on Le Thanh Ton Street.
The concentration of city administrative agencies in the same place will help save land and create convenience for local residents.
