 Longest flyover in HCMC opened to traffic

After 5 months of construction at a cost of VND314 billion (US$14.81 million) , the Y-shaped flyover at the Gay Go roundabout in District 6, Ho Chi Minh City was opened to traffic this morning.
This is the sixth steel flyover and the longest in Ho Chi Minh City so far. It is also the first Y-shaped flyover in Vietnam, the local Transport Department said at the inaugural ceremony that was held for the facility also this morning.

One branch of the flyover, running from Ba Thang Hai Street to Hong Bang Street, is 234 meters long and 7 meters wide, while the other branch, on Hong Bang Street, is 303 meters long and 12-15 meters wide. 

Trucks with loads less than 10 tons, buses and motorbikes are means of transported that are allowed to cross the flyover.

Speaking at the ceremony, Nguyen Huu Tin, deputy chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee said the new flyover will contribute to easing congestion at the city’s western area in rush hours.
The facility will also facilitate the travel of vehicles to the HCMC-Trung Luong expressway, he said.
He also asked the department to check all the six steel flyovers in the city to repair damage or defects, if any.
