Party chief calls for Da Nang to become economic hub of central region   Party Secretary General Nguyen Phu Trong called on Da Nang city officials to transform the city into the major marine economic centre of the central region. Party Secretary General Nguyen Phu Trong made the statement during a meeting on October 17 between the Politburo and the Da Nang Party Committee discussing the 10-year implementation of a Politburo resolution on building and developing Da Nang during the period of moving to a modern industrialised society. At the meeting, Party Secretary General Nguyen Phu Trong commended Da Nang’s efforts to implement the Politburo resolution but stated that its achievements fell short of expectations. Therefore, the Party chief urged Da Nang to make greater efforts, bring its potential into full play and utilise all resources to transform Da Nang into a modern and economically developed city and drive development of the whole central region. He noted that the economy of Da Nang should be based on marine resources with a focus on the fishing industry and coastal tourism. The Party leader added that the Politburo agreed with Da Nang’s proposals and has assigned relevant agencies to formulate appropriate policies that are expected to further stimulate Da Nang’s socio-economic development in the coming years.
