 Voters propose strict trials of 10 “great corruption cases”

Vietnamese people look forward to the National Assembly (NA) and the Government to promote inspection, investigation, prosecution and trial of big corruption cases, according to the report on voter opinions collected before the NA’s 6th session, which opened this morning, October 21, in Hanoi.

One of the largest corruption scandals was detected at the Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group (Vinashin).

The Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and the National Assembly Standing Committee have compiled more than 1,100 comments and recommendations of the voters and the people sent to the NA’s 6th session.
Regards to amendments to the 1992 Constitution and the Land Law, the voters and the people expressed their sincere desire that the NA should listen to the people to acquire the maximum reasonable opinions and to inherit suitable provisions of the 1992 Constitution and the previous Constitutions.
For the revised Land Law, the most interested content is land acquisition. Accordingly, the provisions of the land acquisition for purposes of national defense, security, national and public interests are highly supported. However, land acquisition for the purpose of economic - social development is not completely agreed by voters. Recommendation is that the National Assembly and the Government should have strict regulations to ensure harmonious interests of the State, the people and investors when land is acquired.
Voters welcomed the Central Steering Committee on Corruption Prevention’s decision to establish seven working groups on corruption. The people hoped that in the future, anti-corruption task will have significant changes to meet the people’s expectation on the determination on corruption fighting of the Party and the State.
Voters proposed the NA and the Government to promote the inspection, investigation, prosecution and trial of major corruption cases, especially the 10 serious cases at the Vietnam Maritime Corporation (Vinalines), the Financial Leasing Company No. 2 of the Vietnam Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Asia Commercial JS Bank...
Voters also petitioned the National Assembly and the Government to give more direct supports to farmers and to victims of storms and floods in the central region.
The people also expressed their worries over recent scandals in the health sector. They asked the Government and the relevant agencies to clarify responsibility and strictly handle violations of individuals and agencies in these scandals.
Food safety and environment pollution are also permanent concerns of the people. They proposed the NA and the Government to clarify the responsibilities of competent authorities which loosened environmental management and increase fines and strict handle individuals and businesses committing acts that make serious consequences on the environment.
