Voters propose strict
trials of 10 “great corruption cases”
Vietnamese people
look forward to the National Assembly (NA) and the Government to promote
inspection, investigation, prosecution and trial of big corruption cases,
according to the report on voter opinions collected before the NA’s 6th
session, which opened this morning, October 21, in Hanoi.
One
of the largest corruption scandals was detected at the Vietnam Shipbuilding
Industry Group (Vinashin).
The Vietnam Fatherland Front Central
Committee and the National Assembly Standing Committee have compiled more
than 1,100 comments and recommendations of the voters and the people sent to
the NA’s 6th session.
Regards to amendments to the 1992
Constitution and the Land Law, the voters and the people expressed their
sincere desire that the NA should listen to the people to acquire the maximum
reasonable opinions and to inherit suitable provisions of the 1992 Constitution
and the previous Constitutions.
For the revised Land Law, the most
interested content is land acquisition. Accordingly, the provisions of the
land acquisition for purposes of national defense, security, national and
public interests are highly supported. However, land acquisition for the
purpose of economic - social development is not completely agreed by voters.
Recommendation is that the National Assembly and the Government should have
strict regulations to ensure harmonious interests of the State, the people
and investors when land is acquired.
Voters welcomed the Central Steering
Committee on Corruption Prevention’s decision to establish seven working
groups on corruption. The people hoped that in the future, anti-corruption
task will have significant changes to meet the people’s expectation on the
determination on corruption fighting of the Party and the State.
Voters proposed the NA and the
Government to promote the inspection, investigation, prosecution and trial of
major corruption cases, especially the 10 serious cases at the Vietnam
Maritime Corporation (Vinalines), the Financial Leasing Company No. 2 of the
Vietnam Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Asia Commercial JS
Bank...
Voters also petitioned the National
Assembly and the Government to give more direct supports to farmers and to
victims of storms and floods in the central region.
The people also expressed their
worries over recent scandals in the health sector. They asked the Government
and the relevant agencies to clarify responsibility and strictly handle
violations of individuals and agencies in these scandals.
Food safety and environment pollution
are also permanent concerns of the people. They proposed the NA and the
Government to clarify the responsibilities of competent authorities which
loosened environmental management and increase fines and strict handle
