Nhan Dan – Work started yesterday on the new Viet Tri Bridge spanning the Lo River in Phu Tho province.
The new bridge, which is exclusively for road traffic, measures 736.5 metres long and 22.5 metres wide, with six lanes for vehicles to travel at a maximum speed of 80kph.
The first phase of the Build-Operate-Transfer project requires an investment of VND1.9 trillion (US$89.3 million), and is expected to open to traffic by 2015.
The partnership of CIENCO 1 - Yen Khanh - Thai Son was appointed by the Ministry of Transport to be the main contractor on the project. There is to be a tollbooth stationed on the National Highway No. 2 in Viet Tri city, Phu Tho province for a period of 20 years in order to pay for the project over time.
Once completed, the new crossing is expected to ease traffic flow on the old road-rail Viet Tri Bridge on Highway No. 2 connecting Vinh Phuc and Phu Tho provinces, and to create favourable conditions for the region’s socio-economic development and security.
