The new bridge, which is exclusively
for road traffic, measures 736.5 metres long and 22.5 metres wide, with six
lanes for vehicles to travel at a maximum speed of 80kph.
The first phase of the
Build-Operate-Transfer project requires an investment of VND1.9 trillion
(US$89.3 million), and is expected to open to traffic by 2015.
The partnership of CIENCO 1 - Yen
Khanh - Thai Son was appointed by the Ministry of Transport to be the main
contractor on the project. There is to be a tollbooth stationed on the
National Highway No. 2 in Viet Tri city, Phu Tho province for a period of 20
years in order to pay for the project over time.
Once completed, the new crossing is
expected to ease traffic flow on the old road-rail Viet Tri Bridge on Highway
No. 2 connecting Vinh Phuc and Phu Tho provinces, and to create favourable
conditions for the region’s socio-economic development and security.
