The Cambodia Daily earlier reported that a Vietnamese was beaten to death after a brawl with locals on Highway 2 in Meanchey District, Phnom Penh.
It is reported that a Vietnamese man and a group of people came to help his neighbor who suffered from a motorcycle accident in this area.
Upon arrival, the neighbor had been taken to hospital while his motorcycle lied across the road. The motorbike hindered a Cambodian man and his son from traveling. These people had a quarrel against the Vietnamese man.
The newspaper quoted the deputy police chief of Huot Vanna that an observer provoked the free-for-all fight against the Vietnamese man after shouting the national origin of the victim by an offense word.
The man was arrested and interrogated. A Meanchey district official also said that racial discrimination is the cause because the killers shouted the racial origin of the victim while beating him.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman sent condolences to the victim’s family and confirmed that Vietnam condemns this violence inciting act.
"We condemn all acts provoking racial violence and have asked the Cambodian authorities to investigate and bring the perpetrators to trial, and at the same time to take necessary measures to prevent acts of inciting violence against the Vietnamese in Cambodia," the spokesman said.
Binh said the suspects were arrested.
