Ngo Viet Khoi, a respected network security expert, said that computer and internet users lack knowledge to protect themselves from cyberattacks.
At an internet café, one computer user may have to face 18,000-20,000 malware risks each hour and a high risk of losing data.
Khoi said that if just one officer lacks knowledge about network security, the entire organizations where he works will be unsafe. Therefore, security policies of organizations and businesses must have three Ps - Product, People and Policy & Process.
While the risk of cyberattacks has increased and hackers have become more sophisticated, the public's knowledge about network security has not improved in the last 20 years.
As for Product, the minimum action is using copyrighted anti-virus software, while free software will not ensure safety for users because it is not updated regularly.
As for People, leaders of organizations and businesses have to allocate reasonable budgets for information security solutions, while terminal users, who directly insert USBs into computers, click mouses and open emails, need to follow strict procedures to ensure network security.
Policy & Process, according to Khoi, still cannot receive appropriate attention from businesses. Some businesses spend big money on hardware and security solutions, but they don’t have a good policy and process.
Khoi said the second P is very important. When staff do not access certain websites, do not use Gmail for work or use unlicensed software, organizations will be safer.
The CIO of a business in Hanoi said that many Vietnamese seem to turn a deaf ear to all warnings from experts. A young man, for example, recently posted his picture on Facebook with a passport in hand with the notice that he is going to the US. There was information about the number of passports with name, birthday and age.
Vu Hoang Lien, chair of the Vietnam Internet Association, cited a Ministry of Information and Communication’s report as saying that 53 percent of Vietnamese, or 50 million people, use the  internet.
Meanwhile, We are Social Singapore reported that in Vietnam, 78 percent of internet users access internet daily.
Vietnam now ranks 16th among the top 20 countries with the highest number of internet users in the world.
