Vietnamese
man jailed for robbing British tourist
A court in Ho Chi Minh City on
Monday sentenced a local man to four years in jail for snatching a bag from a
British tourist last year.
The
indictment said Nguyen Tuan Tu, 26, drove a motorbike near two British women
on Nguyen Trai Street in District 1 on June 23. He then forcefully grabbed
one of their bags and sped up.
The
tourists were not hurt.
Two
patrol police officers saw him and chased after him.
He dropped his bike during the chase and tried
to run away on foot but was caught soon later.
Tu
said he was in need of money to pay for his child’s medical treatment. But the judge dismissed his excuse.
